Checklist for Group Website Maintenance

The checklist can be downloaded here.

Login can be achieved through the spm.evaporator account.  You can also add yourself as an administrator by navigating to
    More Actions > Manage Site > Site Settings > Sharing

Page titles can be changed by simply changing the text contained in the title text box (the one above the main page contents).

URL / Location

To change a page's name, you must exit edit mode (Save or Cancel if you are in edit mode).  To change the URL go to More Actions (top right of the edit bar) > Page Settings.  To change the location in the structure heirarchy, go to More Actions > Move Page.

The "Format" menu in the editor takes care of header and text styles automatically.  When used properly, the header styles can be read by various tools like the table of contents generator (Insert > Table of Contents).

Site Dimensions

The current site banner is 905 x 162 pixels.

Full width graphics are 676 pixels wide.

It might be nice to implement a group favicon.  Details here.

Members (current) table format

The following code shows how to make a table with cell padding (cellpadding="5"), no borders, centered (style="margin:0pt auto"), and with alternating shaded and white cells.

The first table row had Name, Email, Research fields, and has the background-color attribute set to the RGB colour (235, 235, 235).  Each second row should have this style tag.

<table cellpadding="5" cellspacing="0" style="margin:0pt auto">

<td style="vertical-align:top;background-color:rgb(235, 235, 235);width:196px;height:16px"><b>Name</b></td>
<td style="vertical-align:top;background-color:rgb(235, 235, 235);width:70px;height:16px"><b>Email</b></td>
<td style="vertical-align:top;background-color:rgb(235, 235, 235);width:55px;height:16px"><b>Phone</b></td>
<td style="vertical-align:top;background-color:rgb(235, 235, 235);width:298px;height:16px"><b>Research</b></td>

<td style="vertical-align:top;width:196px;height:16px"></td>
<td style="vertical-align:top;width:70px;height:16px"></td>
<td style="vertical-align:top;width:55px;height:16px"></td>
<td style="vertical-align:top;width:298px;height:16px"></td>

<td style="vertical-align:top;background-color:rgb(235, 235, 235);width:196px;height:16px"></td>
<td style="vertical-align:top;background-color:rgb(235, 235, 235);width:70px;height:16px"></td>
<td style="vertical-align:top;background-color:rgb(235, 235, 235);width:55px;height:16px"></td>

A useful source on advanced table editing in Google Sites with HTML is here

SPM Home RSS feed

Note that this particular RSS reader didn't work well, so it was ditched.  For the record, it was this:

The RSS feed is the following feed that was put together on Yahoo Pipes by Will.

The embedded Google Slim RSS Reader did not update the feed properly, and would not show any more description.  There are several RSS readers you can embed on webpages available.  The embedded RSS reader that Will happened to use is from the following page

The settings (Edit Feed Settings) have been changed to Show 2 lines of description inline and Open article in new window

SPM Home Picture

The picture is coded in a special way.  A 676 pixel image is the source of the image, and the full resolution version is linked to and can be accessed upon clicking.  This circumvents Google sites' attempt at only S M L or Original sized image.  Below is the code:

<div style="display: block; text-align: left;">

<a href="" imageanchor="1">

<img src="" border="0">
